Fieldnotes: Coffee
Bringing wonder to everyday moments
What a robust, multi-dimensional elixir! My body steadies as I grip the weighty ceramic mug somehow smoother than my own skin. This container, used for magic potions, was conjured through magic itself, no doubt. It feels right in my hand.
The coffee’s warm earthy aroma, self-guided, arrives at my nose, interlocking throughout my sinuses like a handshake between two equals. A spell from flowers, morning dew, ancient tree roots — who am I if not a lovely druidess, starting her day by drinking the Earth’s petrichor?
The combined heat and acidity forces temperance; this potion demands that one enjoys it slowly and it will have its way.
No flavor is subtle. Every mote of almond, blueberry, clove, nutmeg, chocolate pops all at once like a hurricane over a wildfire. It tastes like the wholeness of holding space for joy, fear, and depression all at once. It tastes like this beverage has gone to therapy. I am excited about what I can learn from it.
